Event Details

We are delighted to announce that Susan Roberts, the Monastery’s very own somatic mind-body transformational therapist is expanding her work here at the Monastery and will be joining us every Wednesday throughout 2024.

Susan’s massages proved so popular in February that we have tweaked her programme for March, adding more chair-based trauma discharge massage slots and making double appointments available for those who prefer a longer massage session.

Susan will continue to offer somatic exercise movement & mini-workshops on alternate Wednesday mornings, allowing a deeper dive into the mind-body-nervous system to help you to understand yourself more deeply.

Please scroll down to browse Susan’s updated Wednesday programme for March, 2024.

What is somatic movement?

Somatic movements bring ease to the physical body and more freedom to your movement, releasing the physical muscles and body back to a more natural, neutral state.

Everything in life is inter-related and it is important to understand what could be causing us stress and trauma leading us to pain and discomfort. Our bodies react to everything we experience and carry through life….physically, emotionally, mentally and energetically.

Whatever life throws at you, Susan will help you learn how to self-regulate, solve and soothe the issues and release anxiety levels so you can become more resilient and emotionally stable.

With a lifetime of experience using massage, aromatherapy, body awareness and somatic exercise movements – linking the physical with our subconscious holding patterns, Susan’s solutions are simple and life changing.

Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and loose, comfortable clothes are recommended.

What is chair-based trauma discharge massage?

The nervous system and physical body can hold our reactive state just by talking about our life’s experiences. The body doesn’t know the difference between here and now and there and then experiences – it just reacts in the same way, leading to tension and ultimately, physical pain and discomfort.

With incredibly sensitive touch, along with training and understanding about the mind-body connection that spans some 40 years, Susan’s legendary healing touch can help soothe what you may be holding on to – and invite the mind – the body – the nervous system – the subconscious – to let go and release it.

Done on a regular basis, TDM sessions not only help to discharge what the nervous system might still be carrying, it can also bring ease to the physical body, help to rebalance energy levels, help us to integrate change, and build a more robust resilience to life’s ups and downs.
