Free Entry and Free Parking

Admission to The Monastery is free but donations to help support the preservation of this important Victorian building are always gratefully received. The Monastery aims to be open for public drop-in Sun, Mon & Tue between 10am-4pm. Visitors are welcome on other days (exc. Saturday), but we cannot guarantee that the Great Nave will be available. We highly recommend you call 0161 223 3211 before your visit to confirm opening.

Heritage & Visitor Open Days

Special Heritage & Visitor Open Days are held all year round on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday when the Great Nave, Film Room & Shop are available between 11am-4pm. Please check before visiting that there are no closures which are listed at the bottom left of this page.

Our Welcome Wing Cafe opens at 10am.

Tours and talks with optional delicious afternoon tea or a light lunch can also be pre-booked on these open days, and are highly recommended!

Facilities and Access

Visitor facilities include our heritage corner, a small gift shop, the peaceful Monastery Garden and a tea-room for pre-booked delicious Afternoon Teas. Our Cafe is open in the Welcome Wing from 10am-4pm (Sunday-Friday).

The Monastery is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. There are accessible toilets available throughout the building with baby changing facilities available on the ground floor.

How to Find Us

The Monastery is less than a fifteen-minute drive from Manchester City Centre and there is a free, secure, ample space car park on-site. The Monastery is also accessible by train or bus from Manchester Piccadilly Station.

2020 Opening Times

The Monastery aims to be open Sunday to Friday between 11am-4pm with free entry and parking. Visitors are most welcome to call in during these hours and visit the site but we cannot guarantee that the Nave will always be available.

Our Welcome Wing Café is open from between 10am until 4pm (Sunday-Friday).

We occasionally close the Nave and Cafe for private bookings. Please call 0161 223 3211 or email if you would like to check any dates and are travelling a long distance for your visit.

Our Great Nave is occasionally closed to the public. Please call 0161 223 3211 before your visit for full information and to avoid disappointment.

Monastery Afternoon Tea is usually available on Sunday-Friday, from £15.95pp. You can choose to have your Monastery Afternoon Tea in the traditional settings of the Victorian Pantry/Old Refectory, in our Welcome Wing Cafe or Gardens (subject to weather). Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. Please call (0161) 223 3211 to enquire or book.

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: Dear Friends and valued community, Following advice given this week by the government and World Health Organisation around COVID-19, we have made the decision to temporarily close the Monastery to visitors and the general public from today until at least the end of April. The Monastery team and volunteers feel that it is important to take part in the social distancing where possible so that we may return to normal as soon as we can by having acted in a safe and responsible manner.
