Free Entry and Free Parking

Admission is free but as The Monastery donations to help support the preservation of this important Victorian building and our education and outreach programme are very welcome.


The Monastery aims to be Open Every Day between 11am- 4pm (except Saturdays) with free entry & free parking. Visitors are most welcome to call in between 11 and 4pm and visit the Heritage Corner but we cannot guarantee that the Great Nave will always be available.

Heritage & Visitor Open Days

Special Heritage & Visitor Open Days are held all year round on every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday when the Great Nave, Café & Shop are open between 11 and 4pm. Tours and talks can also be pre-booked on these open days.


Please note, the Nave is, unfortunately, closed on Sunday 12th and Monday 20th May due to a ticketed event. Visitors may be able to have accompanied access to the Nave from around 1-2pm on the 12th during the event lunch break.

Facilities and Access

Visitor facilities include a permanent exhibition in the cloisters, a film room, a traditional gift shop, the St Francis Healing Garden and a tea room - The Victorian Pantry.

The Monastery is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. There are accessible toilets available throughout the building and baby changing facilities available on the ground floor.

How to Find Us

The Monastery is less than a fifteen-minute drive from Manchester City Centre and a free, secure car park is available on-site. The Monastery is also accessible by train or bus from Manchester Piccadilly Station.

Please note, the Nave may occasionally be booked by a private or public/ticketed event. The Nave is closed on Monday 20th May and on Sunday 12th May due to ticketed events taking place (though there should be accompanied access to the Nave from around 1-2pm on Sunday 12th May during the event lunch break).

Monastery Afternoon Tea available on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday when the Victorian Pantry is open (no minimum numbers). Groups of 6 or more can book Afternoon Tea Sunday-Friday.
