anxiety and depression session

Event Details

Anxiety and depression recovery drop-in & course with psychotherapist, Charmain Berry, running for 6 weeks starting Thursday 21st July at 1pm.

One thing we do know about anxiety and depression is that pretty much everyone experiences these feelings at some time in life, and for some people they can become a permanent state. These feelings can be very distressing, interfere with our happiness and cause us to feel isolated and frightened in our own environments. These feelings impact on our behaviours, plans, choices and relationships. Even though these feelings are a huge part of the human experience, the way that these have been pathologized in our systems has led to a culture of stigmatisation and much confusion.

In these workshops we will be exploring the truth about these emotions. We learn and how they often come hand in hand, how they are developed and what we can do to overcome the pain.

Week one

Exploring the cause of depression and anxiety through the lens of cognitive development, internal family systems, trauma and biological responses.

Week two

Focusing on anxiety. Looking at the anxiety vicious circle, how to hack in to the thoughts maintaining the patterns and managing anxiety symptoms by controlling the respiratory system (breathing).

Week three

Focusing on depression. Understanding the thought patterns that maintain depressive symptoms. How to break these patterns with behaviour and uncovering commonly shared beliefs and myths about these feelings. We will also explore the role of meditation in healing depression.

Week four

Looking at anxiety and depression through the lens of the Internal Family Systems model. This includes an overview of the model and some simple techniques to help on the path to healing the underlying trauma.

Week five

How do develop your own recovery action plan. Drawing on the information already shared, we have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas together and begin to transform your own personal experience of needless pain.

Week six

Conclusions. Opportunity to share experiences, ask questions and plan ahead for the future.
