Life at The Monastery is the name for all of our public events and activities at The Monastery for everyone to enjoy.

At The Monastery, we aim to run a varied programme of regular activities and events that engage people of all ages and backgrounds from our local and wider community. There is something for everyone and you are invited to enjoy Life at The Monastery with our programme of weekly, monthly and one-off public events.

We work with community groups, residents and local stakeholders to develop our community and public programme, and to create meaningful engagements with the site. Please join us and meet friends, old and new.

Community Events

Just as the franciscans provided a social focus for the Gorton community, The Monastery still aims to be at the heart of the local area with an extensive programme of community events. Please visit our Events Diary Page for up-to-date listings

Regular activities

Alongside our programme of annual and one-off events, we also have a number of regular activities for our local and wider community to get involved with, including:
- Gorton Voice Choir: community choir who rehearse every Wednesday from 4.30-6pm
- Chatty Crafters: a group of crafty individuals explore a new project each month, (2nd Tues, 1-3pm, £2/3)
- Purls of Wisdom: craft and chatter with like-minded friends (4th Tues, 1-3pm, FREE)
- Yoga for Everyone, a fun-filled family friendly yoga class (Sunday, 12-1pm, £5 and £10 for one adult & two children)

Community Room Rates

At The Monastery, we have community, therapy and workshop rooms for hire, offered at affordable rates for therapists, counsellors, community groups and organisations who are interested in delivering their outreach work in the calming surroundings of The Monastery.

All private events held at The Monastery help us to help others, as all profit goes back into the building and investing in our outreach work.

If you are interested in supporting our outreach work and donating to our St Francis Appeal - to raise funds for a new community project to create sculpture workshops for traditional skills - please see our 'How Can I Help?' page.
