About the Event

This informal concert launches The Monastery’s 30th anniversary year, celebrating three decades of restoration, community, and spiritual renewal. You’ll be among the first to hear Sea of Tranquility before its full public premiere in May, 2026.

Commissioned by the Monastery Trust with support from the Ida Carroll Trust, the piece honours the volunteers, visionaries, and supporters who helped save this treasured heritage site and transform it into a sanctuary of healing, meditation, and creativity.

The Music

Composed specifically for The Monastery’s resonant, sacred acoustics, Sea of Tranquility is a 40-minute sound journey inspired by eight modern Franciscan values: wonder, love, peace, humility, community, simplicity, care, and joy.

From the flowing tenderness of Meditation on Love to the uplifting rhythms of Ecstatic Joy, each movement offers a space for reflection, presence, and connection.

The Performers

The St Francis Players, The Monastery’s resident musicians:

John Hofton | flute, recorder, singing bowls, gongs

Donald Turnbull & James Hutton | violins

Stephen Mann | organ

These accomplished musicians bring Kevin Malone’s visionary work to life, using a blend of traditional instruments and meditative textures to activate the spirit of the space.
