Gorton pagan moot - Beltane

Event Details

Join Gorton Pagan Moot for their Beltane 2025 gathering.

The moot was established in 2017 by a group of local residents who saw that there was a large Pagan community in and around Gorton with no place to meet and get together. This thriving, local moot is now happily based at the Monastery.

What can I expect?

A typical moot is really just an informal gathering of like-minded, nature-loving souls. We just meet for a chat and perhaps a Q&A session. If there are any questions that you have about any aspect of the Pagan path, bring them along and the moot will do their best to answer them. Simply grab a cuppa from the Welcome Café and come along and meet the tribe.

Please note that there won’t be any ritual or ceremony at the moot.

What is Paganism?

Paganism is often a very misunderstood religion. In fact there are those in the Pagan community that would argue it isn’t a religion at all but more a way of life. Pagans follow the cycles of nature and the moon, the seasons, and celebrate eight festivals, known as sabbats, throughout the year. The moot meets around the time of these sabbats, with the next one being held on 4th May, 2025 for Beltane.

What is Beltane?

Beltane, primarily a fertility festival, is traditionally celebrated on the 1st May. It officially marks the start of the summer and is one of the oldest festivals celebrated in the Pagan calendar. It was the time when the cattle were put out to pasture and people performed rituals to protect crops, dairy products and people, as well as to encourage growth.

A time for celebration of the abundance to come, this festival is laced with joyous anticipation. The sun is almost at its height in the sky, the weather is generally good, flowers are blooming, and crops beginning to grow. Fertility rituals such as maypole dancing are deeply associated with this day.

Guest speaker

For the Beltane Moot our guest speaker is: Rev. David Gray, who will be sharing stories and insights about his experiences with the Great Apes of Belle Vue; and what he learned from humanity’s ancient, distant relatives.
