FREE FREE

Enjoy free storytelling and activities for all the family as part of the ‘Manchester Book Fair’ at The Monastery on Sunday 28th April.

As part of the day’s activities, visitors will be able to learn about a classic Chinese story called ‘Journey to the West’ (known as ‘Xiyou Ji’), telling a story of a Buddhist monk who travelled to the ‘Western Regions’ and returned after many trials, with his four apprentices the Monkey King, a pig, a lake God and a white horse!

You will be able to learn about this classic Chinese story from the Ming Dynasty through a short cartoon video with facilitators explaining the story in English. With lots of fun characters in the story, we couldn’t resist the chance to get our face painting kit out – be sure to get your face painted inspired by one of the characters from ‘Journey to the West’!

There will be lots of other family friendly activities on the day too, with a Children’s Book Quiz and Arts & Crafts too!

Family activities in the Welcome Wing are free but entry to the ‘Manchester Book Fair’ is £1 per adult and free for under-16s/Monastery Community Card holders.
