The Monastery aims to be open Sunday to Friday between 10am-4pm with free entry and parking. Visitors are most welcome to call in during these hours and visit the site but we cannot guarantee that the Nave will always be available. Our Cafe has relocated to the Welcome Wing and is open from 10am-4pm (Sunday-Friday). Please note, the Cafe will be closed on Fridays 2nd, 9th, 23rd and 30th. Afternoon Teas will still be served in the traditional settings of the Victorian Pantry.

Special Heritage & Visitor Open Days are held all year round on every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday when the Great Nave, Film Room & Shop are open between 11am and 4pm. Tours and talks, and afternoon teas in our Victorian Pantry, can also be pre-booked on these days. Please note, the Nave will be closed on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd July. There will also be no access to the Nave until 1pm on Tuesday 16th July.

A regular programme of community, health, well-being and family activities is also available for everyone to enjoy. Our affordable Community Rooms can be pre-booked for use 7 days of the week between 9am and 5.30pm.

This former Franciscan church and friary has been described as architect Edward Pugin’s masterpiece. It is a stunning example of the Gothic style he made popular in Victorian Britain. Derelict for many years, it was saved from ruin and is now open to the public to explore. Visitors can learn all about its history, the Friars who built it and the dramatic story of its rise, fall and subsequent rescue. See the heritage restoration of the former church and friary; soak up the atmosphere of Pugin’s architectural masterpiece; walk the cloisters and enjoy the friary gardens. Delicious refreshments, homemade cakes and cream teas are all available in our Café in the Welcome Wing and Afternoon Teas can be pre-booked and are served in the Victorian Pantry.
