Half Term: Victorian Play: Toys and Games

at the Monastery

What’s on at the Monastery? Alongside our regular open days, we also run an exciting programme of events, activities, talks, concerts and performances. Use the search bar below to discover what's on and what's coming soon at The Monastery.

The Monastery aims to be open Sunday to Friday between 10am-4pm with free entry and parking. Visitors are most welcome to call in during these hours and visit the site but we cannot guarantee that the Nave will always be available. Our Cafe has relocated to the Welcome Wing and is open from 10am-4pm (Sunday-Friday). Please note, the Welcome Wing Cafe will be closed on Monday 5th and Fridays 2nd, 9th and 30th August, but the Victorian Pantry will be open instead. Please note, the Cafe and Pantry will now be closed on Friday 23rd August due to a private event.

Special Heritage & Visitor Open Days are held all year round on every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday when the Great Nave, Film Room & Shop are open between 11am and 4pm. Tours and talks, and afternoon teas in our Victorian Pantry, can also be pre-booked on these days.

A regular programme of community, health, well-being and family activities is also available for everyone to enjoy. Our affordable Community Rooms can be pre-booked for use 7 days of the week between 9am and 5.30pm.

29th May 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

£2 – £4 £2 – £4

Before televisions, computers, video games and phones, what did children do to play?
Although a lot of children had to work during the Victorian times, they still found time to play. Victorian children had fewer toys than you have today, meaning that families often had to be very creative and some would even make their own toys! In this session, children will have the chance to learn about traditional toys and games, and have a chance to play with them!

No need to be bored during half term break. We have lots of activities on offer from 1-3pm throughout the week for the whole family to enjoy.

All events are suitable for children aged 5-12 years and cost £4 per session* and accompanying adults go free. To book your place call (0161) 223 3211.                                    *sessions are half price for Gorton Community Card holders.
