HRH Prince of Wales START visit to The Monastery

Royal Praise For Gorton Monastery

HRH The Prince of Wales recently attended a Civic Dinner with 400 Businesses and Community leaders as part of his National tour to launch his START sustainability initiative.

In his speech HRH congratulated the Monastery’s team, supporters and volunteers who have brought the building back to life. HRH The Prince of Wales also said, “I do hope all those concerned feel immensely proud of what they have achieved. I don’t know about you, but I find  that just being here lifts my spirits and makes me feel anything is possible”.

The September visit was the second time that the HRH Prince of Wales has visited Gorton Monastery and he is a great supporter of the Trust and their plans for the future. On his first visit in February 2007 he was accompanied by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall as they witnessed the restoration of the Grade II listed building. Paul Griffiths, Trust Chairman, who is a former altar boy and grew up in Gorton said, “ We are delighted to have hosted a second visit of HRH The Prince of Wales in just 2½ years and to have his continued support for a local project. Gorton people have much to be proud of.”
